ST. LOUIS COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICT SELECTS S. M. WILSON & CO.

The St. Louis County Library District has selected S. M. Wilson & Co. to manage the construction of more than $31 million in upgrades at eleven library branches across the county in Phase 1 of a master facilities capital improvement plan.  Two libraries will receive new buildings, and nine additional libraries will receive significant upgrades.  Work has begun on the two new branch facilities.

The new Grant’s View branch in Affton will be a new two-story, 40,000 square foot building located at Gravois & Musick Roads. The replacement branch will feature abundant natural light and plenty of comfortable seating. Additional amenities include an expanded children’s area with a program and crafts center, two meeting rooms, a computing area with instructional lab, study rooms, a teen space and quiet areas.

The Lewis and Clark branch in Moline Acres will receive a new 20,000 square foot, one-story building on their existing site. The facility will feature three different computing areas including a computing instructional lab, an expanded children’s area with a program and crafts center, a space for teens, a business center featuring fax and copy machines, multiple study rooms and a meeting room.

Work on existing facilities upgrades will soon begin at the Rock Road, Jamestown Bluffs, Indian Trails, Weber Road, Oak Bend, Natural Bridge, Prairie Commons, Cliff Cave, and Samuel Sachs branches.  These facilities will have upgraded and expanded children’s areas, quiet reading rooms, community meeting spaces, expanded computer access, and private study areas.

S. M. Wilson is providing Pre-Construction and Construction Management services for the building program.  Work is expected to be completed in first quarter 2016.  Architects for the program are Christner, KAI Design & Build, and Bond Architects.
