Barnes-Jewish Hospital

CTICU & OR Renovation

The CTICU & OR Renovation project consisted of 48 ORs in three phases, with 250,000 SF of new and renovated space on six floors in the hospital’s Southwest Tower and East/West Pavilions. New bridges connect three levels of the Southwest Tower to the Rand Johnson Building and to the East/West Pavilions. Also included are an intensive care unit, a 21-bed cardiothoracic ICU, two pre- and post-anesthesia areas, central sterile and other support areas. The operating rooms are designed to be reconfigured quickly when reassigned to new surgical specialties, incorporating a wide variety of accessible, adjustable systems that will support future needs. One such system is a unique flexible ceiling grid that recaptures critical floor space in the ORs by suspending equipment such as power, data and movable light sources.
